Challenge
Although AIM has been doing wonderful, respected work in the Atlanta community for nearly 20 years, trying to communicate the value of supporting children with mothers in prison remained difficult. And with more children needing help, the agency needed more support from more sources including individuals and corporations.
Solutions
Messaging and Organization Identity
Kemba Creative developed a tagline "Save a child. Save a family. Save your community." that emphasized the value of the organization in terms that the public cares about. We created stationery, double-sided business cards with additional messaging on the back, and a design that immediately communicated its professionalism to the public and potential donors.
Brochure and Sales Kit
With these materials, we gave AIM the tools to reach larger funders. We wrote the new brochure to connect personally with readers and describe the group’s work in enough detail to justify a large donation. The folder is designed to put a human face on the issue, while being bold enough to stand out on any cluttered desk. And we also wrote AIM’s case for support, Executive Director bio and fact sheets to make sure AIM’s messaging stays consistent and strong.
Newsletter
Kemba Creative designed and wrote a newsletter to promote AIM's work and accomplishments to donors, volunteers and
potential supporters. Donors found the newsletter enlightening, and potential volunteers and supporters learned more about AIM. But it didn’t stop there. AIM’s executive director is often finding new uses and audiences for the newsletter. For instance, moms in prison found it uplifting, allowing AIM to get more children involved in its programs.
Direct Mail
Kemba Creative is now working with AIM to establish the framework of a successful direct mail campaign. Already we have translated AIM’s messaging and needs into compelling letters and reply devices. And we have increased the frequency of mailings, which is earning AIM more money.
On-call Marketing Team
When the need arises for communication strategy, writing and design, we step in to make sure AIM’s message and look stay consistent. It also saves the Executive Director time, allows her to concentrate on running the organization and, she says, boosts AIM’s image.
Results
"You really helped me by raising the look of AIM and taking us to the next level. You have softened and humanized our look. What we had before was not reflective of the agency. What we have now is more a mirror image of what AIM is about. The new materials and clearly the newsletter talk about the heart of AIM. And it’s the heart that draws people."
Sandra Barnhill, Executive Director/CEO, Aid to Children of Imprisoned Mothers, Inc.
